The current Goa Assembly elections which is already embroiled in enough controversies is now marred with yet another one generated by that mischievous statement by Goa BJP’s election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis that Senior Congress leader Pratapsingh Rane was consulted before selecting the BJP candidate for the Poriem constituency.
Pratapsingh Rane now having vehemently denied any such conversation, the BJP and Devendra Fadnavis in particular must apologise for spreading such ill-behaved lies.
Having personally known Pratapsingh Rane from 1972 when he was Law Minister under Goa’s second Chief Minister late Shashikala Kakodkar we have all seen his very distinguished innings as legislator for an uninterrupted half a century which is no mean feat to achieve.
It is despicable that the BJP in its sheer desperation to hold on to power has been stooping to such low levels going to the extent of sullying Pratapsingh Rane’s fair image.
Being the senior most and tallest leader in Goa’s political space, it is hoped that Pratapsingh Rane will go all out during these elections to ensure the defeat of the BJP which is required to salvage what remains of Goa.
The recent decision by the Pramod Sawant government to bestow lifelong cabinet status on Pratapsingh Rane is yet another ploy by the BJP which our extremely seasoned legislator must spurn. That the carrot dangled is absolutely unconstitutional with no legal standing is another issue.
