ANOTHER POLITICAL GIMMICK BY AAP

In yet another cheap stunt the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has at a five star hotel announced that Amit Palekar would be its Chief Ministerial candidate for Goa. It is high time political parties take a cue from the Konkani saying ‘Xita fuddem mitt khai nakam’

A party goes into an election steered by its Party President who usually is not a candidate at those elections. In keeping with the democratic principles, it is the elected MLAs who elect their leader of the Legislative wing and possibly by consensus who if has the requisite numbers goes on to be the Chief Minister.

At the last 2017 Goa Assembly elections the AAP amidst much hype had similarly also announced their Chief Ministerial candidate. But all their candidates tasted defeat after being swept away and worse still that only one managed to salvage the deposit. Ironically except a handful, all those candidates have since abandoned AAP for obvious reasons.

AAP’s fate this time may be no different if worse. The people of Goa know the importance of these elections and of the dire need to defeat the BJP which has misruled and destroyed Goa over the last decade. Voters will not waste their votes which will only benefit the BJP on account of a division of votes.

Such political parties who are here with ulterior motives will on the evening of 14th February vanish from our political turf only to resurface at the next polls in 2028, if at all they are still around.
