AND NOW THE CAPTAIN OF INDIA’S JUDICIARY IS IN THE DOCK

India’s Judiciary is going through the roughest patch ever since its inception. With the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi now embroiled in very serious charges of alleged moral turpitude against him, there could not have been a bigger blow to the very solemnity and sanctity of the Judiciary which is the last and only hope in our quest for Justice.

With his own colleagues now conducting a probe into those mind boggling allegations, propriety demanded that Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi should have volunteered himself to step aside  pending the probe or at least proceeded on leave to ensure that there was no direct or indirect impediment whatsoever to the investigation being conducted by his own fellow subordinate  Judges. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.

It is mandatory that judicial accountability must be maintained at all times with every Judge conforming to the highest standards of uprightness and integrity. If Judges cannot with all probity in public life, balance the scales of Justice, our Temples of Justice become pointless ending up as dens of chicanery and jugglery.

Those who are entrusted with the solemn duty of faithfully interpreting and upholding the law cannot themselves be above the law or be seen to break the law.
