Goa’s devious Town & Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai had two months ago assured me that swift and stringent action would be taken against the rampant unlawful land filling all over the Merces-Chimbel area. But his action if any has been mere eyewash only on paper. It is very distressing to see the continued land use violations which is all leading to a catastrophic environmental and health hazard.
With political patronage, on these low-lying fields mangroves have been brazenly chopped to make way for illegal huts with varied unlawful business activity having mushroomed while the authorities in rank dereliction of duty are conveniently inactive and turning a blind eye to this grand ecological disaster and social nuisance in the making.
Vijai Sardesai’s inaction followed by his fake assurance is on account of his deep rooted dubious links and nexus with the land mafia. His very continuance as Town & Country Planning Minister is a grave threat to what remains of Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn.
