Despite the Supreme Court having directed that BJP Vice-President Anil Hoble’s Bar & Restaurant along the Ribandar – Panaji causeway was illegal and had to be demolished, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has craftily managed to very deviously get the local authorities to save that unlawful and hideous structure. There couldn’t be a more blatant disrespect to the Majesty of India’s highest Court.
On 7th October last year a three-Judge Bench of the Supreme Court headed by then Chief Justice T.S.Thakur agreed with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) finding that the structures of Anil Hoble were constructed after the CRZ policy came into force on 19.02.1991 and it being unauthorized structures, cannot be used for any purpose whatsoever and ordered demolition.
The Bench, which also comprised of Justices A. M. Khanwilkar and Dr D. Y. Chandrachud, held that the NGT’s finding and consequential directions to demolish the structures and a fine of Rs 20 lakh was “unassailable”. It said there is nothing to doubt the NGT’s findings that Hoble’s structures were within 100 metres from the high tide line and cannot be allowed to remain so.
The Bench further noted that the structure that existed on the plot bought by Anil Hoble in August 1992 was a small one in a corner of the plot used only as a garage for repairs of vehicles while the structures ordered to be demolished now were completely different in shape, size and location.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar now undoing a Supreme Court order is just another glaring example as to how you can merrily be above the law if you are with the BJP. We have been seeing all over and even in Panaji that with the blessings of the BJP you can even extend your business onto the public footpaths.
At Shashikala Kakodkar’s first death anniversary, Manohar Parrikar recalled how the former Chief Minister would correct him in his mistakes. But who will now straighten the incorrigible, arrogant, eccentric and ego puffed Manohar Parrikar.
We are all sadly witnessing how Manohar Parrikar and the BJP are dismantling brick by brick the strong foundations of Goa laid by Dayanand Bandodkar and later by Shashikala Kakodkar. And to add to our despair, Vijai Sardesai and his pack of political clowns through their Fot, Foting and Fotingponn are aiding and facilitating the swift destruction of what little remains of Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn.
