GOA NOW WITHOUT GHRC

With the term of the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) headed by Justice UV Bakre having ended the Government must diligently take immediate steps in expediting the process of constituting the new GHRC.

In fact the government should have prepared the groundwork in good time knowing well in advance when the term was coming to an end. There should be no attempt to keep the GHRC dysfunctional. With the increasing number of human right violations being witnessed there would be an undesirable vacuum without the GHRC in place.

In the current state of anarchy, there is a paramount need to secure the human rights of one and all. No citizen should have to fear the State but should confidently participate in its administration and stand up for his Rights. GHRC is an independent authority constituted by law to deliver justice and bring to book the violators of Human Rights.

As the Goa Government’s poor track record of constituting the Constitutional authorities has been there for all to see, there is apprehension that Goa may possibly be left without a GHRC for long while the government conveniently drags its feet. Let us vow to selflessly make our Goa a better place where Human rights are not a privilege of just a few but a rightful liberty entitled to every single Human.
