GOA’S ‘ACCIDENTAL CM’ SHOULD NOT FOMENT MISHAPS IN JUDICIAL SYSTEMS

The skewed statement by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that our High Court should also function in Konkani besides English is nothing short of derailing a well established system of administration of justice at the higher level. Furthermore, it is not only ridiculous, but also legally untenable to say the least.

It is expected that the Chief Minister should utter every word with responsibility and not end up being a laughing stock, even while playing to the galleries of his sycophants. Does he understand the huge logistical nightmare that such an impractical move would entail? A catastrophic blunder it would be.

The High Court as functioning now is performing reasonably well and the Chief Minister should not mess up things by coming up with such off the cuff unviable ideas which could open a Pandora’s box given the very cosmopolitan State that Goa today is. The High Court in consultation with the legal fraternity is competent enough and knows how best to ensure proper and fair dispensation of justice in the State.

Pramod Sawant would be well advised to focus on the pressing issues facing Goa instead of trying to keep us entertained and distracted with such absurd ideas. And if every decision by the government is taken with proper application of mind and within the legal framework, citizens would not have to knock on the doors of the High Court for Justice. Currently the litigation at our High Court is mounting by the day on account of ill conceived decisions being taken with political and vested interests. And nobody but the government is solely responsible for this.
