PANAJI TRAFFIC POLICE HAND IN GLOVES WITH THE CASINOS

The entire Panaji’s Dayanand Bandodkar Marg is a No Parking-No Stopping zone. But the Traffic Police are conveniently turning a Nelson’s eye at all those Casino vehicles which are being illegally parked around the clock on this very busy road. The Panaji Traffic Inspector should be held responsible and accountable while being hauled up for selectively not enforcing the law. The DGP must order a probe into who is pocketing all those kickbacks from the Casino lobby. And it is very obvious who the culprit is.

While the all powerful Casino lobby rules the roost, the residents of Sao Tome ward behind Panaji Post Office in particular also having been suffering for the last many years on account of the parking nightmare created by the Casinos. The situation gets worse especially on the weekends with Casino staff and customers haphazardly parking their vehicles and even urinating all over disturbing the peace and tranquility of the residents of the area.

While the authorities have miserably failed to deal with the traffic mayhem in Panaji, to add to the chaos hordes of Casino taxis are illegally parked all over the city. The law requires that the taxis be stationed at the designated taxi stands or at the residence of the owner. This appalling state of affairs must be brought to an end by bringing in honest Traffic police while ensuring that there is a full-fledged night shift too as that is when a lot of violation of traffic regulations including drunken driving is galore.
