THE PARADOX OF PANAJI

There needs to be some sincere introspection to examine and analyse why Goa’s capital city with such a very rich glorious past has been over the last decades factually faltering and festering.

Panaji is the second richest town among 8000 towns in India by annual per capita income and also ranks 51 among 8000 towns in terms of total saving deposits in all nationalized banks. Our capital city ranks 6th in the country among 8000 towns paying the non- corporate income tax.

We are a hundred percent literate town standing second in India in terms of purchasing power of the citizens. We also have the highest television and telephone density per thousand population. Yet we are a mismanaged city.

The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) is the smallest municipal corporation by population in the world, yet our city is in a mess on all fronts on account of the rampant corruption and nepotism at the CCP.

We need to all strive together and aim to restore the glory of Panaji city as a vibrant capital city of Goa which was witness to the glorious history of the freedom struggle. Let us in this 60th year of Liberation make this solemn vow.
