In recent years, the social media has transformed our lives by drastically enhancing and empowering people to access information quicker and to be able to communicate instantly across the world. It gives a voice and a platform to anyone willing to engage.
Through the worldwide web, Whatsapp, Twitter and the various groups on Face book, besides other global networking sites that I subscribe to, in a few minutes every morning, I am able to communicate by sharing a message or a thought with thousands of people across the globe.
We need to firmly believe in fearlessly putting across our viewpoint for the benefit of all and respect the opinion of others as learning is an ongoing process. Mark Zuckerberg the Chairman and co-founder of Facebook said ‘When you give everyone a voice and give people power, the system usually ends up in a really good place’.
It should be our endeveaour to encourage our friends to join the social media world for enrichment of our knowledge, making new friends and strengthening relationships worldwide.
Social media is now a part of everyday life for people of all ages, backgrounds and status. For children and young people, it is important to learn how to communicate online and to readily access information to develop their skills. This will put them in good stead for future opportunities in the workplace and in communicating with friends and family. It is imperative that people have reliable access to the internet and for this the Government must invest in the necessary infrastructure, to ensure that every person even in the remote areas is not excluded from the huge benefits of our digital age.
The current pandemic has clearly demonstrated the power and benefits of social media in challenging times as well as in good times by reaching out to all when physical encounters are impossible or ruled out.
It’s an amazing world! A huge contrast and drastic improvement from the old days when the wheels of communication would turn ever so slowly. So, let’s stay connected and make it better for everyone.
