On 15th October last year Dayanand Sopte left for Delhi by that late night flight claiming that he was going on a ‘business trip’ to the capital while the whole world knew that he was on his way to defect to the BJP after having been promised a cabinet berth within 15 days. But that promised Ministership never materialized while Sopte had to be content with that hefty wallet he received. Subhash Shirodkar who also flew to Delhi that night besides that very golden handshake was also a beneficiary of that handsome 70 crore Shiroda land scam courtesy Manohar Parrikar.
Both these very dubious defections were engineered by the devious Vishwajit Rane with his aspiration to be the Chief Minister. But he dug the political grave of these two MLA’s and at the ensuing by-elections to Mandrem and Shiroda on the 23rd of this month it will be the voters of these two constituencies who will lay Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar to eternal political rest.
This will send a resounding message to others who dare resort to such political chicanery and take the voters for a ride. We must ensure that at least in Goa there is no room for political Pimps and Prostitutes. Time to cleanse and sanitize Goa’s very grubby political turf.
