The very crucial Mhadei issue should have been center stage in the current brief session of the Goa Legislative Assembly. That it did not even find mention in the address of Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai is inexplicable and indefensible. It only exposes the blatant lies and very sheer deceit by the BJP which has been hoodwinking Goa and Goans on Mhadei.
However the public battle for our Mhadei has taken off on a stunning start. The people have firmly resolved not to allow the Central and State Government to fool them on this vital issue. Goans need to remain united in this fight and maintain this crusade as a people’s battle. Politicians need to rise above party lines to salvage our State from becoming a parched desert.
This has to be a dedicated struggle to ensure that every precious drop of water is saved for the wellbeing of Goans. The Mhadei issue can drag on no longer and must once and for all be brought to a logical conclusion by ensuring that Goa’s interests are protected. There is a need of utter sincerity and transparency by this so-called double engine government at least on this very vital Mhadei front. There can be no room for political chicanery and double talk.
The unacceptable silence by Goa Governor Pillai on this very critical issue was deafening. He ought to have intervened and spoken up for Goa and our best interests being the Constitutional custodian of our State. He willfully abdicated in his bounden duty. We have been let down by Governor Pillai but we shall overcome.
