My friend from Calangute who is currently working in Dubai was shocked, very surprised and extremely anguished that the name of his son was so very mischievously and fraudulently deleted from the Electoral Roll. Is nothing sacrosanct in Goa anymore?
Have requested the North Goa Collector to direct her officers to investigate this serious matter and restore the name of the deleted on the electoral roll. Needless to say, deterrent action must be taken against those responsible and the electoral system reinforced with adequate safeguards to prevent and detect any such fraud. What is shocking is that the voter had to detect the fraud rather than the authorities and the electoral system!
In a democracy, voting is the most precious right of every citizen, and the authorities have a duty to ensure the integrity of our voting process. This kind of voter fraud can only lead to voter apathy and an erosion of trust in government.
As a matter of extreme caution, it may be prudent for all to check and ensure that their names are not similarly fraudulently deleted as our voting rights are invaluable.
Every voter must ensure that he is not a victim of such blatant political mischief. Voting is not only our right but our power.
