It beggars belief that in the midst of this dreadful pandemic some of our Ministers and MLAs have the rank audacity of so merrily and pompously celebrating their Birthdays.
That curfew and Section 144 is on paper only to be violated by the law makers themselves. Despite a total ban on social gatherings, it is flouted with impunity while public functions organized on the occasion of these birthdays and the irony is that the law is being breached in the presence of and with the complicity of the top brass of the police. Our Care-less Chief Minister has been leading the way in flouting the mandatory social distancing and use of masks. If those in power are not complying with the laid down guidelines, how do we expect the common man to adhere to the restrictions imposed.
While rejoicing their birthdays, are those that we elected so very blind and insensitive to the fact that while people have been dying by the droves their families are drowned in inconsolable grief? Would it take one of their very own to be struck by COVID for these politicians to wake up to the reality? Instead of squandering money on birthday bashes, couldn’t they instead have come to the aid of those families in deep financial distress in this pandemic either due to a death in the family or loss of livelihood?
Politicians thrive on inaugurating half baked projects. Recently at Divar a Covid relief center was inaugurated in the morning only to shut shop that very evening. In these critical times the people need the services of their elected representatives the most. While the people are in distress and mourning, our Ministers and MLAs are cheerfully celebrating. It couldn’t get any worse.
With the Assembly elections due soon in Feb 2022 Ministers and MLAs are as a last ditch attempt trying to get maximum political mileage from these Birthday celebrations. Do they realize that the last impression is not always the best but could be the worst too? Which hopefully in this case will be.
