Let us hope that Satya Pal Malik as Goa Governor will usher the much needed dynamism at our Raj Bhavan. He may be a BJP politician but fortunately has no roots with the RSS having traveled through various political parties including the Congress, Bharatiya Kranti Dal, Janata Dal, Lok Dal and the Samajwadi Party before embracing the saffron brigade.
He would have to on a priority curb all the unnecessary extravagant expenditure at the Raj Bhavan which is a criminal waste of public funds. With the state coffers in extremely dire straits there is also a need of urgent and very sturdy austerity measures.
Hopefully Governor Malik will be very proactive and connect to the people across the state as Governors cannot end up being mere rubber stamps as they constitutionally have a major role to play in overseeing that the State is well administered in accordance with law.
Like all the Raj Bhavans our Raj Bhavan must also come within the ambit of the RTI Act so that there is absolute accountability and total transparency in all that transpires within that heavily guarded fortress. Restoring the RTI Act at the Raj Bhavan will be the first challenge on the lap of the new Governor.
