INDIA’S JUDICIARY IN PERIL

We must all commend the brave Madras High Court Chief Justice VK Tahilramani for having tendered her resignation in protest against her very unfair, arbitrary and illogical transfer to the country’s smallest High Court in Meghalaya.

With just over a year to retire Chief Justice Tahilramani was so humiliatingly sought to be shunted from a Court of 75 judges that she is currently heading to a Court of just two judges. VK Tahilramani who had earlier been acting as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court has had an impeccable and unblemished record and known to be a no nonsense Judge.

This very shabby treatment meted out to her smacks of witch-hunting and whittling away judicial independence. It amounts to eroding the majestic status of the judicial institution. It is extremely anguishing that the Supreme Court has inflicted grave injustice to one of its distinguished and refined High Court Chief Justice. Injustice anywhere is a threat to Justice everywhere.
