WORLD CUP A VERY DAMP SQUIB FOR GOA

The FIFA U-17 World Cup being hosted by India with some matches being played in Goa brings no cheers to our football loving State as there is not a single Goan player in the Indian squad. This, despite football being the official Sport of the State.

In 2012, the Goa Government created the Goa Football Development Corporation (GFDC) with a whopping five crore annual budget but it has ended up being another white elephant being unable to groom the young football talent in the State.

To add to Goa’s woes the soccer outfit FC Goa which is now owned by Casino Tycoon Jaydev Modi instead of tapping young football talent in the State has gone scouting for football talent all the way in the North East. It would have been a relief for Goa if Jaydev Modi had also taken his Casinos along.

It would now be prudent to wind up the GFDC and entrust the Goa Football Association the sole task of professionally uplifting and restoring the past football glory in the State.
