A FARCICAL OFFICIAL LANGUAGE DAY

It took a much sustained agitation, with even loss of some lives in that battle to ensure that Konkani was recognised as the Official language of our State.

Every 4th February is merely symbolically being observed as the Official Language Day of Goa. Very sadly successive Governments have not been sincere and serious in promoting Konkani as the official language. This intentional lip and cosmetic service has been prejudicial to the development of Konkani.

The unique identity of Goa has been fast fading. Goa today is no longer the Goa we knew. It is so distressing to observe and be witness to the continuing rampant destruction and devastation of our land. Goa is sadly, by the day, just getting further corroded beyond recognition. Political greed and vested interests have outweighed the welfare and wellbeing of our Goa. In the name of all that skewed development the Goan ethos has been extinguished.

It should have been the endeavour of those in power to at least salvage and safeguard what remains of Goa. Unfortunately Goa is getting defaced at an electrifying speed. Posterity will never forgive the current rulers for their selfish and avaricious role in this irreparable damage and destruction of what was once a beautiful Goa, the Paradise of the East.
