TIME TO PONDER ON RISING DEATHS

The BJP instead of trying to rewrite India’s history and even fiddling with the very foundation of our Constitution would be well advised to put the peoples’ welfare first by getting scientists to examine why so many people are dying, and some of them so very young.

Is it a combination of the poor quality of air we breathe and the adulterated or poor-quality food we consume, through lack of affordability or availability that is taking its toll? These issues can be addressed by the government by addressing them promptly and taking the necessary corrective measures.

So many deaths due to road accidents is also a matter of concern. Many of these accidents due to rash and negligent driving can be avoided and precious lives saved. The government cannot be pardoned for those accidents and resulting deaths on account of poor road engineering. Road safety and good quality roads free of numerous potholes and craters has never been a priority for the government. The galloping number of deaths due to Cancer is haunting the world and leaving us helpless. All possible research needs to be explored.

We visit Temples, Mosques and Churches besides other places of worship to seek God’s blessings. Maybe we should start praying and taking positive action for making significant improvements to our deteriorating environment and the ill effects that Mother Nature is now wreaking on our lives.

We live in hope that the government will take seriously the advice of our very own Mahatma Gandhi when he advised ‘that Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow-men’.
