There was a time when the BJP claimed to be … a party with a difference … but today it has been reduced to a double engine of Corruption and Communalism. It has been stooping to any levels to hang on to power.
While the Supreme Court and the Election Commission is rightly concerned about tainted persons with a criminal baggage being elected, the BJP is conveniently looking the other way.
The Panaji MLA Babush Monserrate is a classic case. Despite facing serious criminal charges of attacking the Panaji Police Station besides a rape case, the BJP for political expediency is not cracking the whip.
In May 2019 during that by-election Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had roared all over that Babush Monserrate was a rapist and that women would not be safe with him around. But within weeks the very same politically impotent Pramod Sawant embraced that very Babush Monserrate into the BJP. No wonder there is a huge trust deficit between the people and those in Power.
Ethics and Morality have been thrown to the wind. And unless this is restored the future is bleak with the situation just further deteriorating and reaching a point of no return.
The coming Assembly election is an opportunity for the people of Goa to elect worthy MLAs who are not immersed in crime and criminal muck. Panaji in particular being the capital city deserves better if not the best.
