SORROWING LIES OUR GOA

In a way we can’t blame Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for faltering and failing on every issue. Nothing was expected from him as Chief Minister. He accidentally landed on that Chair and to our misfortune it has been mishap after mishap in handling every issue faced by the State.

One fails to comprehend as to why instead of allowing the ruling MLAs to democratically elect their leader, Manohar Parrikar anointed Pramod Sawant as his successor before he departed. The only person who may be privy to this information is Utpal Parrikar, while it is astounding that Pramod Sawant has now totally sidelined and isolated the former Chief Minister’s son.

Despite his utter inefficiency in governing the State, Pramod Sawant yet wants to control it all. He must explain as to why he continues to hold the very lucrative post as Chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and also wants to head the Mining Corporation being set up. Would it not amount to conflict of interest for the Chief Minister who also holds the Mining portfolio to head this crucial Corporation?

In making appointments Chief Minister should look beyond his Parivar and friends. During this pandemic he appointed his little known own first cousin  Dashrath Parab as Chairman of the very prestigious Institute Menezes Braganza, a prominent cultural institution of long standing repute promoting language, literature, art and culture in the state to meet the versatile cultural interests of the Goan society.

As far as personal greed is concerned, at least in public life it cannot be that sky is the limit. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should look away from his private agenda and own aspirations. No government can also run its affairs as a commercial venture but has to focus on serving every section of the society and more particularly the poor and marginalized. As rightly said it is not the business of the Government to be in business.
