PORTUGAL, A POPULAR TOURIST HOTSPOT

Portugal is picturesque and scenic. On this visit besides witnessing the tightly contested General elections, it was a delight spending the day on my 65th birthday at the Costa da Caparica beach, South of Lisbon and known for its endless golden sands, relaxed atmosphere, delicious meals while overlooking the lapping waves and enjoying the authentic Portuguese charm. An awesome environment in all aspects. The sand dunes are in place and intact. Not a shred of garbage anywhere. Like most places of scenic beauty that attracts millions of tourists to Portugal every year, the needs of the people are well supported and managed.

All the activities are conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, and the facilities are clean, convenient and easily accessible by all. From parking to the management of shacks, everything is very well organised. Despite an extremely huge crowd at the beach, it was all well under control. One does not have to bear the eyesore of touts and pimps hovering around the beach being a nuisance to relaxing happy tourists. A perfect way to enjoy the day with no hindrance or annoyance whatsoever.

Tourists from all over the world throng Portugal all year round. The country rich in history is blessed with good weather, natural scenic beauty, an abundance and variety of good traditional and international cuisine, and accommodation at affordable prices and above all with creative, friendly, welcoming and hospitable people that makes Portugal a popular choice for sustainable tourism. It does not need to hold travel marts or road shows around the world to promote Tourism. The country’s well-augmented infrastructure, history and reputation as a safe and enjoyable tourist hotspot with a thriving economy is an impetus for tourists to visit Portugal.

With the increasing air traffic into Lisbon, the city needs a new state of the art International Airport, which has been earmarked to be completed by 2034 and designed to handle 100 million people annually by 2050. The current airport despite its challenges manages to cope despite the ever-increasing huge influx of aircrafts and people. A trip to Portugal is well worth the visit! However, it is time to return to London.
