Portugal has a lot to offer. Visiting Alcochete was so very enriching and eventful. Small but a magnificent quaint coastal town in the District of Setubal. It can be reached from Lisbon by cruising the Vasco da Gama bridge across the river Tagus, which is a 40-minute drive from Lisbon
This bridge spans over 17.2 kms and is Europe’s second longest. An iconic masterpiece built very artistically and tastefully. The bridge which was inaugurated in March 1998 is a very impressive work of engineering completed in record time of just 37 months while ensuring rigorous and highest levels of quality control.
Alcochete, a place one must not even inadvertently miss visiting. The town where Dom Manuel 1, the King of Portugal from 1495 to 1521 was born.
Locals recount that Alcochete has witnessed major all-round development after the construction of the Vasco da Gama Bridge. It is also known for its traditional bullfights and has a free port. Alcochete has been the site selected for the construction of the proposed new Airport for Lisbon. The towns and villages of Portugal are just fascinating, Alcochete being one of them. Seeing is believing.
