The Silly Souls imbroglio has rightly generated a lot of interest amongst the public, more particularly within our Goans across the globe.
In the first week of June this year I got many calls from residents of Assagao that they were being disturbed with very loud music being regularly played at Silly Souls Café & Bar till the early hours of the morning. There was also a deep concern whether banned drugs were made available at this high profile party joint. What triggered my concern was, on being told that despite telephonically made complaints every night the authorities failed to act on even a single occasion. To be specific the authorities failed to act while the locals faced that brunt of loud music all through the night.
It was obvious that if the law enforcement authorities were quiet and failed to ever act, it would be on account of the influence of a politically well connected owner. So that RTI application immediately followed and the rest is now history. It is now beyond any doubt that the family of Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani was running that joint. Truth must always surface and it has in this case.
Of the various issues I raised in the last several decades, this one was tough, possibly because the offender was a very powerful Union Minister with the BJP at the helm of affairs at the center and in Goa going out of the way to shield those shady Souls. But it was patience, calm and composure with perseverance that has helped to get to the bottom of this rot. A very stinking and awful political rot indeed.
