PANAJI IN A SEA OF DESPAIR

The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) had assured that as the pre-monsoon works were well executed that the city would not witness flooding this year. But within hours of raining the city had to bear the brunt of flooding all over, only proving that the entire cosmetic pre-monsoon works done was money down the drain.

The very vital Panaji market and our Kadamba Bus terminal continue to stink and in very dire straits, while the St Inez and Rua de Ourem creeks persist to be a horrible eyesore with our nostrils bearing the brunt of that unbearable stench. Our roads and footpaths need to be attended to. The city’s gardens and parks are also in a despicable state.

The stagnation and neglect of the city’s vital infrastructure, the environment and sustainable development is all too evident. Despite paying exorbitant taxes, the quality of life for the residents of Panaji has been on a downslide with people now having to pay steep fees even to park their vehicles.

The coffers of the CCP which should have actually been overflowing continue to be willfully emptied. Unless there is transparency and accountability in the working of the CCP with Zero Tolerance to any scams, the city will languish in decay.

In a way we cannot blame the MLA and the Councillors too, most of whom paid a premium to buy every vote and get elected. And we got the trash we deserve.
