The Government needs to act expeditiously against that outrageous bungalow belonging to BJP national spokesperson Shaina NC which has come up within the heritage precincts at Old Goa.
The battle to safeguard our heritage area has to be a people’s movement. No political party should try to extract political mileage at least on this issue.
Although it is nice that my friend and colleague Adv. Amit Palekar of AAP is on a fast unto death, we must not avoid looking into his political motivation today, and recalling his past. On 14th October 2018, we were all aghast to see him leading a group of then IT Minister Rohan Khaunte’s henchmen who had come to disrupt a meeting of villagers at the Chimbel lake who were opposed to the IT Park which was sought to be set up there at the cost of the lake, fruit bearing trees and environment. Can we trust him now to be genuinely committed to the causes dear to Goans?
On that monstrous bungalow at Old Goa, the government must seek the guidance of the Advocate General on how to get it demolished without leaving any loopholes for litigation by that politically well connected BJP leader. It is also imperative that all those involved in fraudulent acts and forgery to facilitate this construction must be brought to book.
The authorities are also duty bound to act against all other illegal structures that have come up with political patronage destroying the sanctity and solemnity of this UNESCO world heritage site.
