Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has solemnly promised that all the roads in Goa would be free of potholes by 1st November. Incidentally 1st November is All Saints day. If Pramod Sawant fails to deliver on his assurance he will have to answer to even the departed on November 2nd which is All Souls day.
Despite the Bombay High Court having ruled that good and properly maintained roads are a Fundamental Right of every citizen, this so very insensitive Government has allowed the roads to deteriorate to an extremely pathetic condition.
The authorities don’t seem to care for the hardship faced especially by two wheelers on account of the pothole ridden roads. To add to the misery people have to also navigate around the stray cattle and dogs which have merrily infested our roads and even the Highways.
When will the government realize that good and safe roads are a foundation vital to proper traffic management and road discipline? How many more lives will have to be lost in road accidents for the reality to sink in and dwell on those in power.
Let us hope that by 1st November every road across the State will be free from potholes.
